INVITATION to ISHA Paris Seminar 2016
Dear ISHA People, Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to the first ISHA seminar in France since 1993, taking place from Tuesday 31th May until Friday 3rd June 2016 in Paris! The topic of the seminar is ’Diversity as a marker of the temporality of the city’ and the indoor/outdoor lectures and workshops will focus on the question of temporality in the city and the use of the notion of diversity as an analytical tool. This theme is a reflection of current works in urban history and sociology regarding urban renewal and its influence on society.
The workshops are going to examine a wide variety of its aspects, including the diversity of cities and diversity in cities through the example of social groups, productive activities&functions, like different urbanisation and urban reconstruction processes and through the production of spaces, boundaries and cultural heritage. There will also be a workshop dedicated to the challenge of a student in History and Social Sciences, where current and prospective MA and PhD students can meet to explore academic programmes and the opportunities available to continue their university career (scholarships, internships, etc).
The scientific programme will be complemented by optional cultural programs and social activities in the Capital of the World. We can offer you sightseeing tours only on arrival&departure days (31th May and 3rd June 2016) and we can also book extra night(s) in the hostel, upon request (which should be stated in the application).
The seminar has a total capacity of 40 participants. The application period starts on Monday, 7th March 2016 at 00:00 CET and ends on Sunday, 13th March 2016 at 23:59 CET. The participants (and the waiting) list will be published on the website of ISHA Paris by 18th March 2016 at the latest.
The participation fee of 30 euros has to be paid until 1 April 2016, which covers accommodation and 3 meals per day (except on the day of arrival). However, you will be kindly asked to purchase the transportation ticket (called ‘carte Navigo Découverte’, which costs 26,25 euros for a week) on your own expenses, upon arrival. Payment details will be announced via Email. If we do not receive the participation fee, the respective participation will be cancelled and we will offer the place to the person next on the waiting list.
The participants are selected according to the following criteria:
1. Academic quality of motivation stated in the application;
2. At least one active local member from each section;
3. Precedence of ISHA officials;
4. Non-Members/Partners of ISHA interested in getting involved with ISHA.
